Primary School Tours:
We have been hosting primary school tours for over 25 years and have very experienced and friendly tour guides. We are based near Glendalough, about an hour south of Dublin, in the beautiful Wicklow hills. A primary school tour at Greenan Maze includes an educational, active and full day outing which includes elements of heritage and local history, nature and environmental activities, and age specific tours. We believe in giving a high quality tour and therefore only host two groups per day. Tours can last from 2 ½ to 4 hours depending on your requirements.
Attractions:
» Celtic Maze: large hedge maze, very exciting, kids love it! Replanted in 2021 with local beech trees.
» Museums: guided tours of 3 fascinating museums; Old farm life, Traditional farmhouse and unusual Bottle museum.
» Wild Nature Walk and Dragonfly Ponds: tranquil nature reserve with raised walkway, ponds, woodlands and wildlife.
» Bio-diversity and Pond Life analysis for Green Schools (subject to availability)
» Farm Animals: pigs, horses, donkeys, lambs, chicks and more.
» Field Games: welly boot throwing, wheelbarrow relays, sack racing and sheep bowling!
We also provide undercover lunch tables and free tea/coffee for teachers.
We are delighted to cater to your schools specific needs and you can mix and match the activities to your special requirements.
Testimonials:
” I would just like to thank Anita & the team at Greenan Maze for such a great school tour and for being so accommodating. The whole day was so organised. Both Junior and Senior Infant classes had a wonderful day and enjoyed the activities, especially the maze, nature walk, games, animals & spotting fairy doors! Many thanks to Will and Carol for being so attentive and friendly with the children! They came home exhausted but very happy! We will definitely be visiting again and recommending it to others! Go raibh míle maith agaibh!“

“Hi Anita, Thank you so much for our wonderful tour on Monday. I will happily send you a review. The two girls were amazing tour guides and all the kids and staff were so happy throughout the day. As soon as I arrived back to school I told the school office to book us in again for next year. I have been recommending it to all staff for class and their own children. I look forward to going again next year. ‘We had an absolutely amazing school tour here. The staff were incredible with the children and wonderful guides. The children loved the games they provided and seeing all the different aspects to the greenan maze. There was so much to do. I can not wait to go back again. I couldn’t recommend this more for schools, groups and family days out. All children and staff went home extremely happy after a day out here.’ Thanks again and I wish you all the best you truly deserve it. It is so lovely to hear positive feedback on our class from Carol and Eimear” with kind permission from Mercedes, Wicklow Educate Together National School – 11th July 2022

Transition Year Bio-Diversity Tours 2024
Secondary School Tours:
On our nature activity tour students will learn about biodiversity in both the natural and farmed environments and how it serves us as they are guided around our beautiful fields, hedgerows and woodland walks. As they learn to identify some of Ireland’s common wildflowers and insects there will be plenty of hands-on opportunities and we’ll get up close to some of the weirdest ones! Taking a closer look at the unseen world around us, we’ll find out just how important these tiny creatures are in the food web… including our own dinner plates. With additional activities in our farm museums students will gain a clear understanding of how changes in the way we live have made a big impact on the natural world…and what they can do to help restore the balance. Your visit will include;
- A guided woodland walk with our experience tour guide
- An imparting of a deeper understanding into what Biodiversity means in our daily life
- An introduction to the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan and learn how you can mirror some of Natures practices at Greenan and adapt them in your school and home garden.
- A nature treasure hunt with beautiful information panels which explore Biodiversity in detail
- Quiz time and time to explore the past in our three Farm Museums
- fun and games in our two amazing mazes!
With relevance to the science, geography and history curriculum and the Green Schools programme, talks can be tailored to fit in with your special interests or classroom activities. Let us know what you need… we’d love to talk to you!
We believe in giving a high quality tour and therefore only host 50 students per day in two groups of 25 people. Tours last maximum two hours and cost €25.00 per secondary school student. We can cater all our tours to your specific requirements, we would be very happy to chat with you anytime.
