Greenan Maze is replanted and ready for visitors for 2022! We open on Sat 9th April to Sun 24th April everyday for the Easter school holidays. You can now watch the NEW Maze grow along with your children as many have done before…
It has been a bit of a rocky few years. Jonathan Wheeler who planted our original hedge Maze, sadly passed away in 2018. Soon after his death, the hedge maze which was 34 years old, caught a pathogen called Phytophthora Lateralis. Over the last few years, the pathogen spread through the hedges and the Maze also died. After a battle all Winter to remove the old hedging, Jonathan’s son Will has been busy replanting a new Maze for this Spring!
Although it was a bit of a shock to lose the old Maze, it did enable us to make some big nature friendly improvements. The next generation Maze is planted with locally grown broadleaf beech trees from Aughrim. 1500 trees and a lot of hard graft! For the new fencing we also kept it local and used Larch fence posts from nearby Annamoe.
Broadleaf trees support much more biodiversity, improve soil quality and encourage insect life. Continuing our nature-friendly theme, we have 7 giant insects hiding through-out the Maze waiting to be found.
We have also joined up with the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan and designed a new Nature Treasure Hunt which will lead your kids on an amazing adventure around the whole farm. Crack the clues and solve the nature puzzles to find the treasure!
Lots of friendly animals on our farm are just waiting to meet you. Let your kids muck around in our outdoor kitchen and explore the new crooked play house and play area!
Take a seat at our sunny outdoor coffee shop and relax with a cup of delicious organic coffee, paninis sandwiches and sweet treats. The coffee shop and craft shop are open every day.
We’ve acres of space and plenty of picnic tables for family gatherings.
